Fairbanks teacher negotiations hung up on salary

Published: March 27, 2012

FAIRBANKS -- Contract negotiations with teachers are continuing in Fairbanks.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says the Fairbanks Education Association and Fairbanks North Star Borough School District negotiating teams have been meeting all month.

Teachers are working under the terms of a contract that expired June 30. Negotiations for a new contract continued in the fall but fell apart over teacher salary increases. The talks are continuing but appear hung up on the same salary issues.

The district has proposed a yearly increase of 1 percent to teacher salaries, outside of increases for experience and education. The teachers union proposes 2.5 percent yearly increases.
