DENALI NATIONAL PARK -- Favorable weather and work by road crews means drivers on the Denali Park road can go as far as the Teklanika River Rest Area at Mile 29 beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Expect to encounter ice, snow and mud on some portions of the road, as well as heavy equipment operators as they work to clear more of the 92-mile road to Kantishna.
Good snow remains for skiing and snowshoeing, especially on north-facing slopes, the National Park Service reported Friday. No bears have yet been sighted, but visitors and staff have spotted increasing numbers of lynx, moose, spruce grouse and golden eagles.
The road may open and close several times in the coming days depending on the weather, so call the park at 907-683-2294 to check on conditions.
