JUNEAU -- Two men had to be pulled from Gastineau Channel in Juneau after getting in a fight over a whiskey bottle.

KINY-AM radio says the Coast Guard was notified by a 911 dispatcher about 7 p.m. Tuesday that two men had fallen in the channel from a pier near the downtown library.

Authorities say the men had been fighting over a whiskey bottle.

One man was found clinging to the pier. The other was found swimming in the channel. Coast Guard Station Juneau launched a small boat and recovered the man swimming in the channel.

People onshore helped the other man to safety. Both men were taken to the hospital to get checked out.
