Troopers seek driver in Peninsula hit-and-run

KENAI -- Alaska State Troopers say they're seeking the driver of a sport utility vehicle that struck and injured an 8-year-old girl outside Soldotna.

The girl was taken to Central Peninsula Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery

The Peninsula Clarion reports the girl was playing with other children in a puddle along Kalifornsky Beach Road when two of the children ran into the road.

A witness told troopers the SUV swerved but struck the girl and did not stop.

Trooper Captain Andy Greenstreet says if the driver had stayed at the scene, officers would have investigated and found no fault.
