The Alaska Native village corporation for Holy Cross has issued a statement of support for the community's city council after incumbents won re-election following a local effort to recall the entire council.
Deloycheet Inc. says "noteworthy issues have been identified" and the council is in place to "re-establish a strong foundation for local city government."
All four incumbents in Tuesday's local election won. Four recall proponents on the ballot were defeated by wide margins in the community of 175.
Village officials recently rejected the proponents' effort to recall the entire city council over alleged mishandling of duties, including failure to file mandatory financial disclosures, provide workers' compensation insurance for city employees, hold regular meetings or follow through with scheduled elections.
State officials have confirmed the validity of the allegations.
