New Kodiak-area church to share strip mall with liquor store

Published: April 20, 2012

KODIAK -- A bedroom community of Kodiak is about to get its first church. No one seems to mind that it's next door to the neighborhood's only liquor store.

The Kodiak Daily Mirror reports Calvary Fellowship received approval this week from the Kodiak planning and zoning commission. The commission is involved because the new location for the church is a vacant strip mall store front zoned for business in the Bell's Flats community.

Commissioner Casey Janz says it's great to have the store location filled after being vacant for years. Ryan Gorectke is with the church and says there's no date yet when they will move to the strip mall.

About 700 people live in Bell's Flats, about 11 miles southwest of Kodiak city.
