• CALL FOR CHEFS: The Alaska Division of Agriculture is offering grants to chefs interested in highlighting Alaska Grown products at farmers markets throughout Alaska. The funding is available through the division's "Chef at the Market" program, which has two primary focuses: drawing more customers to the markets and teaching Alaskans new ways to cook and prepare Alaska Grown vegetables. • CALL FOR QUILTERS: Pratt Museum in Homer will host a themed quilt show, "History in the Making: Quilts, Quilters and Their Stories" from Nov. 9-Dec. 30. Quilters are invited to create works that reflect their rich, shared local history or their own personal connection to this place. Each quilter will be asked to include a brief statement about their personal quilting history and the story of their piece. Quilts or wall hangings can be hand quilted, machine quilted or tied. All styles and techniques are welcome. Works must not exceed 72 inches in length or width. This is not a juried contest. Quilters must notify Pratt Museum curator Holly Cusack-McVeigh of their intent to participate no later than Sept. 1. Quilts need to be delivered for installation on Monday, Nov. 5, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. For more information, call 907-235-8635.
• CALL FOR ARTISTS: The seventh annual Moose on Parade was inspired by the example and spirit of Wild Salmon on Parade in Anchorage and Cows on Parade in Chicago. The Denali Arts Council in Talkeetna will match up artists with sponsoring businesses to place large, uniquely designed and decorated moose all over town. These moose will then take part in the July 4th parade and then be auctioned off to the highest bidder. The council is currently looking for artists and submissions. • CALL FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS: Anchorage Festival of Music announces its 14th annual Young Alaskan Artist Award competition. This award provides a solo, professional debut recital in Anchorage and award money to a young, aspiring classical musician pursuing a music performance degree in college. Any Alaskan pursuing a college degree or program in music performance at an accredited institution is eligible. Applicants must be at least college freshmen to apply. They must also submit two letters of recommendation, a completed application form, a minimum of a 30-minute recording and a $25 application fee. Applications must be postmarked no later than Monday, May 7. • CALL FOR MUSICIANS, POETS AND MORE: Anchorage Saturday and Sunday Markets and the Bear Paw Festival in Eagle River will need musicians, poets and all manner of performing artists. Markets are Saturdays and Sundays May 12-Sept. 19, and the festival is July 13-15. Deadline to apply for the festival is May 15; applications for the markets will be accepted throughout the summer. • CALL FOR ART VENDORS, ENTERTAINERS AND FOOD VENDORS: The Anchorage Downtown Partnership is calling for art vendors for three events: Festival of Flowers Celebration, set for noon-8 p.m. June 1 in Town Square; the Downtown Summer Solstice Festival, scheduled for noon-6 p.m. June 23 on Fourth Avenue; and Salmon Daze, noon-6 p.m. July 28 on G Street between Third and Fourth avenues.
