Alaska Aces: Conference finals constant

Anchorage Daily NewsApril 22, 2012

The Alaska Aces' series-clinching 4-1 victory in Stockton on Saturday night pushed the defending Kelly Cup champions into the conference finals for the third time in the last four seasons and the sixth time in their nine ECHL seasons.

Since the Aces joined the minor hockey league in the 2003-04 season, no other club has advanced to the conference finals as often as the reigning league champs and two-time Cup winners.

Little wonder their 75-36 record in ECHL playoff games marks the highest winning percentage (.676) of any club in league history.

The Aces in the Western Conference Finals will face the Las Vegas Wranglers. The Kalamazoo K-Wings, who the Aces beat in five games in the Cup Finals last season, and Florida Everblades will battle in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Here are the teams that have banked the most conference finals appearances in the last nine seasons:

Team Conf. Finals

Alaska Aces 6

Cincinnati Cyclones 4

Florida Everblades 4

Idaho Steelheads 3

Las Vegas Wranglers 3
