Palmer GOP sends Parnell nominees for Gatto replacement

Associated PressApril 23, 2012

JUNEAU -- Republicans from the late-Rep. Carl Gatto's district in Palmer have sent the governor the names of three potential candidates to serve out the remainder of his term.

Those candidates, according to the House District 13 Republicans, are David Eastman, Shelley Hughes and Marvin Yoder. Hughes had earlier filed with the Alaska Public Offices Commission, signaling her intention to seek a state House seat from District 8 this year.

The District 13 Republicans, in a statement, said they chose the three from among seven applicants.

Gov. Sean Parnell will review the names. The process calls for a name ultimately to be sent to House Republicans for ratification. Gatto died this month at age 74 from complications of cancer.
