South's Erin Stuart and Morgan Hooe proved a deadly combination Tuesday, with Stuart assisting on two Hooe goals in a 2-1 win over West in a Cook Inlet Conference girls soccer match at Clark Middle School.
West took the early lead on a goal from Annie Rush, but Hooe tied it 1-1 when she headed in a Stuart corner kick just before halftime.
Hooe used another header to knock in the game winner off another Stuart corner kick in the 63rd minute.
East 6, Bartlett 0
Six T-birds scored goals for East on Monday, and the Thunderbirds trounced Bartlett 6-0 in a CIC girls soccer match at The Dome. Brielle Johnson opened scoring for East, with Rochelle Jordan, Halle Rice, Alexis Traxinger, Anna Woern and Grace Woern adding goals.

James Kari scored twice Monday, helping the East boys soccer team cruise to an 8-0 CIC win over Bartlett at The Dome.
Rian Phillips notched a goal and two assists. Paul Matyas, Branden Kressly, Danny Krielkamp and Blaine Broga each recorded a goal and an assist.
Felipe Costa tacked on East's final goal, and Scott Williams and Yann Andrews chipped in assists.

Reece Robinson's two goals led Service to its first outdoor win Monday at Chugiak High, where the Cougars picked up a 5-0 win over Eagle River in a CIC boys soccer match.
Adam Klie, Ihro Raguindin, Aaron Santoyo each added goals.

UAA's Ward named Athlete of the Week
On the heels of last weekend's record-breaking performance, UAA's Shaun Ward was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference track and field Athlete of the Week, making him the sixth Seawolf to earn the honor this season.
The senior from Eagle River broke the GNAC record in the men's 400-meter hurdle last weekend at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational, finishing the race in 52.00 seconds. Northwest Nazarene's Dallas Beaty set the previous record of 52.05 in 2009.

Orienteering meetings
A pair of meetings are scheduled on the next two Thursdays to teach people how to organize orienteering meets -- the first will discuss how to put on a meet and the second will talk about how to design a course.
The meetings are April, 26 and May 3 from 6-9 p.m. each night at the conference room at Resource Data (1205 E. International Airport Road).

7 earn karate license
Seven Alaskans earned national karate licences last weekend at the Tanaka Martial Arts Academy in Anchorage, four earning licenses to referee and three earning licenses to judge national competition.
Anchorage's Cindy Tanaka and Vassar Bradford earned a referee C license, as did North Pole's Saroj Bhattarat. Anchorage's Jason Fisher earned referee D license.
David Hjellen and Mike Hellings, both of Anchorage, earned judge C licenses, and Anchorage's Austin Mahan earned a judge D license.
The national referee licence course was conducted by USA National Karate Do Federation, the governing body of karate under the US Olympic Committee.
There are four levels of license, with A being the highest. Anchorage's Christopher Hodgin renewed his national referee A licence at the Junior Olympics in Las Vegas earlier this month.

Brown, Hernandez win at Mayor's Cup
Stanley Brown and Arnaldo Hernandez advanced in the Mayor's Cup Tennis Championships at The Alaska Club North on Tuesday, each winning singles matches in the men's C division.
Brown defeated Chaz Anderson in straight sets, and Hernandez came from behind to knock of Estrada Bernard in three sets.
