Industry speaks in support of gov's plan

Published: April 25, 2012

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The Alaska production manager for Exxon Mobil Production Co. says Gov. Sean Parnell's new oil tax plan represents a significant improvement over the current tax structure.

Dale Pittman, in written testimony to the House Resources Committee, says HB3001 would provide a meaningful tax change. He says it's Exxon Mobil's belief that the bill would lead to a significant increase in investment in Alaska and more oil production.

The Alaska Oil and Gas Association, ConocoPhillips Alaska and BP Alaska echoed the same sentiment.

Meaningful has been the buzz word in the oil tax debate and it means different things to different sides.

The Alaska Senate advanced a plan focused on oil production from new fields. Parnell's plan gives tax breaks for new and existing producers.
