FAIRBANKS -- The Fairbanks City Council is protesting the renewal of two liquor licenses.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the council voted Monday to protest renewal of the license for the Arctic Bar until owners pay $18,829 in back taxes.

City officials say the bar has a pattern of not paying full taxes until the city protests license renewal.

The city is also protesting renewal of a liquor license for El Dorado Bar & Grill. The license was transferred several years ago by its owner from a previous establishment. The new restaurant has not opened.

The state requires restaurants holding a liquor licenses to operate at least 30 days per year.
