Governor's priorities skewed
Am I confused? Does the governor have our representatives working overtime to produce legislation; to fund a straighter four-lane divided Seward Highway to save lives; to fund more police, prosecutors, judges and prison cells to end revolving-door justice; to fund school improvements, additions or additional teachers to reduce class sizes; enact a law to require 100 percent ballot distribution in all elections to avoid voter disenfranchisement?
No! This prior (and probably future) oil industry employee has them working overtime to hand over hundreds of billion dollars a year to the richest industry, and the richest companies, while they make history-making profits. Do I have this right?

School nurses' qualifications mean that, yes, they're 'real'
This week I had a student come into my office and ask me if I was ever going to get promoted so that I could work in a hospital. Over the years, I have had students ask me if I was a "real" nurse. With National School Nurse Day coming up on May 9, it made me think that our community may not realize what a highly qualified group the ASD school nurses are.
All school nurses in the Anchorage School District are RNs that have at least a bachelor's degree or higher in nursing. Over 60 are nationally certified. So I am proud to tell my students that, yes, I am a "real nurse." School nursing is a challenging, rewarding and, yes, sometimes frustrating job. We utilize all of our skills and education to ensure the wellbeing of our students.
If you appreciate what your school nurse does for your child, let him/her know. Better yet, let the School Board and superintendent know.

For parking, raze and rebuild
If the city really wanted to improve parking at the Sullivan Arena, (either or both) Mulcahy Field and Ben Boeke Arena should be razed and rebuilt at other locations. In all honesty, both of these venues are eyesores.
The field improvements made by the American Legion are to be commended but the grandstand seating is virtually untouched since it was originally built. If the money was available, the city should do a land swap and place Mulcahy Field where the Kosinski Fields are. Baseball can survive the year or two it would take to build a new baseball facility.
Ben Boeke can be relocated most anywhere.
