Pa. taxpayers could pitch in $30M in refinery deal

Published: April 30, 2012

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Gov. Tom Corbett's administration is offering Delta Air Lines a $30 million grant as part of its commitment to buy a refinery near Philadelphia.

Delta said Monday that it's buying the Trainer refinery from a refining company being spun off from ConocoPhillips. Delta says a subsidiary will pay $150 million, including the $30 million taxpayer-paid grant.

A spokesman for the Corbett administration says the grant is contingent upon Delta subsidiary Monroe Energy investing at least $350 million at the project site, including the acquisition cost, and maintaining a minimum of 402 full-time workers there for at least five years.

Corbett, U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, U.S. Rep. Pat Meehan and state Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi are all planning to attend a news conference Tuesday at the site.
