Participants gather to attach ribbons to branches at the annual Victims for Justice Tree Ceremony held noon Monday, April 30, 2012 at 9th Avenue and G Street downtown. Colored ribbons representing violent crimes were hung on the choke cherry tree that was donated to the City of Anchorage by Victims For Justice in 1987. The ceremony began at First United Methodist Church, where the West High School choir performed and Susan Sullivan of Victims for Justice introduced speakers Dept. of Corrections commissioner Joe Schmidt and Greer Gehler of Sen. Mark Begich's office.
