FAIRBANKS -- Another 80 Alaska-based soldiers are home from Afghanistan.
Fort Wainwright on Sunday welcomed home the soldiers from the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, who returned after a year-long deployment.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports Col. Todd Wood kept his welcoming speech short: "Welcome home. Congratulations. Dismissed," at which point the soldiers rushed into the arms of their waiting families.
The soldiers were the next-to-last group to come home.
About 90 more soldiers will return Wednesday.
They're the last of the about 4,000 soldiers of the Fort Wainwright Stryker Brigade that spent 12 months in southern Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
