JUNEAU -- Gov. Sean Parnell says he'll sign legislation providing more than $50 million in additional funding for K-12 education in Alaska.
That legislation includes an education package unveiled by the House -- and passed by the full Legislature -- at the very end of the regular session. Parnell and House Republicans had bristled at automatic increases in education funding, favoring a more targeted approach that has money going to demonstrated needs.
Parnell's office says the total state-funded K-12 budget for education and student transportation is $1.2 billion for next fiscal year.
