My search for hearty gustatory reds has led me to David O'Reily's 2009 Rook red wine. This Columbia Valley product is a lovely chunky blend of merlot, syrah and cabernet that fires on all cylinders. Most of us don't pay attention to the aromas, but if you check you will find dark black stone fruits and herb. The true magic of this blend is in the mouth where its lovely textures and deep black fruits satisfy well beyond the "fruit bomb" range. This wine strives to be the real thing and does a great job. Costs about $15.
