5 runners join UAA

May 4, 2012

Five athletes, three from Alaska and two from Germany, will join UAA's cross country and track teams next school year, the school announced Wednesday.

The group includes three high school seniors from Anchorage and Wasilla -- Bartlett's Rosie Smith, a sprinter and hurdler; Dimond's Sarah Freistone, who runs distances from 800 to 3,200 meters, and Wasilla's Jessica Pahkala, who runs distances from 400 to 1,600 meters. Freistone and Pahkala will compete in both track and cross country.

The men's track team will welcome two additions from Germany -- Bobo Camara, a decathlete from Cologne, and Dominik Notz, a distance runner who will also run cross country.
