Hughes to be sworn in to serve Gatto's term

JUNEAU -- A former aide to the late state Rep. Carl Gatto will be sworn in Friday to serve out the remainder of his term.

Gov. Sean Parnell chose Shelley Hughes from among three candidates put forth by House District 13 Republicans. And House Speaker Mike Chenault announced Thursday that Hughes had been confirmed by a majority of House Republicans A swearing-in ceremony is planned for Friday in Palmer.

Gatto, a Republican from Palmer, died April 10 from complications related to cancer. He was 74.
