Service edged Eagle River 5-4 on a cold night at Mulcahy Stadium, with Matt Ilalio providing the winning run in the fifth inning of a Cook Inlet Conference baseball game Friday.

Ilalio also scored the game's first run, part of a rally that put the Cougars up 3-0 through the top half of the first inning.

"We had some trouble throwing strikes after that," Service coach Ken Wooster said. "It was a well-played game, not a lot of errors. There were a lot of walks."

Kyle Frost notched an RBI triple in the bottom of the first for Eagle River, and the Wolves put together a three-run rally in the third to tie the score at 4-4. Eagle River's Ricky Ayala scored two runs on two hits.

Service reliever Braydon Mitchell pitched three innings for a win, and Johnny Mezaros pitched the seventh and final inning for a save.

South 5, Dimond 1

Max Karnos struck out 10 in a complete game four-hitter Friday, leading South to a 5-1 CIC baseball win over Dimond at Chad Bax Field.

Logan Allred punched two hits for South, and Conner Cucullu notched an RBI triple. South took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth when Andy Schaefer scored on a base hit by Scott Hodgson.

An Aaron Brown triple drove in Dimond's only run.
