WASILLA -- Wasilla residents are collecting donations for the family of a 22-year-old man killed on the Alaska Highway in Canada.

KTUU-TV reported that Brad Merkt and his 27-year-old cousin, Brian Quammen, died Tuesday night in a head-on crash with a pickup truck near Fort Nelson, British Columbia.

The driver of the pickup truck was injured.

Merkt's mother, Kathy Merkt, said her son was moving to Oklahoma and Quammen was helping him.

Friends are collecting donations at Wasilla's North Bowl bowling center, where Merkt had worked.
