JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON -- A new commander for U.S. Army Alaska has been selected.
Army officials say in a written statement that Maj. Gen. Michael X. Garrett will take command during a ceremony Thursday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
Garrett will replace Maj. Gen. Raymond P. Palumbo, who scheduled to be promoted and moved to the Pentagon.
Palumbo has been the commander of U.S. Army Alaska since July 2010.
Garrett previously was commander of the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Fort Richardson. He is originally from Cleveland.
