Alaskan Brewing Co. received three medals at this year's World Beer Cup competition in San Diego.
The Juneau Empire reports that the competition involved nearly 4,000 beers judged from 54 countries in 95 categories. Brewers Association President Charlie Papazian says the competition is considered the Olympics of beer competitions.
Alaskan Brewing's Amber Ale won a silver medal in the Irish Red Ale category. Alaskan Stout won bronze in the oatmeal stout category, and the India Pale Ale took third in the American-style Strong Pale Ale category.
Judges from 27 countries determined winners by blind taste evaluations. The awards were announced at the Craft Brewers Conference this month.
