Anchorage police say a 59-year-old man has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman while smothering her with a pillow.
Police arrested Charles Charlie of Anchorage. His arraignment was scheduled later Friday.
Police say a woman in an apartment complex heard strange noises coming from her neighbor's apartment. She went in to check on the welfare of the 53-year-old woman, and told police she found a man sexually assaulting the neighbor and holding a pillow over her face. She confronted the man, who police said then fled.
The neighbor identified the man, who police believe was living with someone else in the complex. Charlie was arrested on burglary and attempted sexual assault charges when he arrived at the complex later Thursday. Bail is set at $50,000.
According to a statement from police, detectives believe Charlie may have more victims. People who think they may have had contact with Charlie are asked to call Detective John Vandervalk at 786-8776.
