Rider killed when motorcycle collides with off-road vehicle

Published: June 2, 2012

A Wasilla man died when his dirt bike collided head-on with an off-road buggy Friday alongside Knik Goose Bay Road, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Brett Ray, 26, was riding west on the bike, about 75 or 100 feet off the road, as Ryan Blankenship, 24, headed east in a Polaris Razor, troopers said. Neither could see the other driver approaching and the smashed into each other at the top of a hill near Mile 5.5, troopers said.

Both drivers were wearing helmets, but Ray died a few minutes after the wreck, troopers said. Blakenship was uninjured.

An investigation is in progress, troopers said.
