FAIRBANKS -- The Air Force says military aircraft from four foreign nations and two states will gather at Eielson Air Force Base south of Fairbanks for an exercise dubbed Red Flag-Alaska.
Alaska crews will join aircraft from South Korea, Japan, Poland, Germany and the states of Washington and South Carolina in the exercise that starts Thursday and runs through June 22.
The Air Force says A-10 Warthog jets, designed as slow-flying tank-killers, will participate. Eighteen A-10s were once stationed at Eielson. The last was reassigned in 2007.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports other aircraft participating include F-16 and F-15 fighters, KC-135 tankers and Eurofighter Typhoons.
