FAIRBANKS -- A Fairbanks woman has been sentenced to prison in the death of an 11-year-old boy.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says 69-year-old Yiki Kim was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison Wednesday for striking the boy with her sport utility vehicle as he walked to school last August.
Kim was driving toward University Park Elementary School when she failed to turn right and her SUV jumped the curb and hit the boy. She was arrested at the scene after failing field sobriety tests for apparently taking several prescription medications the morning of the crash.
Superior Court Judge Randy Olsen sentenced Kim to 10 years in prison with six and a half years suspended. Five years of probation will be served after her release.
