KODIAK -- A Bering Sea fisherman who suffered a major electrical shock and heart complications has been medevaced from his ship by the Coast Guard and flown to Dillingham.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Grant DeVuyst said a helicopter crew delivered the unidentified 43-year-old crew member on Friday afternoon to emergency medical services in Dillingham. His condition was not known.

The Coast Guard spokesman said the crew member reportedly received a 480-volt shock while working on the electrical switchboard of the Cape Horn, a 145-foot fishing vessel based in Seattle.

The ship was 172 miles northwest of Dillingham at the time.

The Cape Horn called the Coast Guard for help early Friday morning.
