State, Exxon Mobil to testify about Point Thomson leases

Published: June 9, 2012

FAIRBANKS -- The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a hearing this week on Exxon Mobil's development plans for the Point Thomson leases.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the hearing is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Anchorage Legislation Information Office.

Officials of the Legislature and administration will testify in the morning. Exxon Mobil representatives will testify in the afternoon.

Point Thomson has more than 1 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil and gas condensate and 7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. It has been the subject of much contention over the years because Exxon Mobil has repeatedly declined to bring the field into development.

The state and Exxon have entered into an agreement to get the company to develop the field.
