FAIRBANKS -- An Interior Alaska community will host next year's world mushing and skijoring championships
The International Federation of Sleddog Sports announced Friday from Oslo, Norway, that it picked North Pole for the events in late February and March. The host organization is the North Pole Development Corp.
The organization will plan events for junior, sprint, mid-distance, long distance mushing and skijoring.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports events will be staged in North Pole, Salcha, Two Rivers and Fairbanks
The world championships are held every two years. The races alternate between Europe and North America.
Quebec hosted the 2009 event and Norway hosted races last year.
The Alaska Dog Mushers Association hosted the event in 2001 in Fairbanks.
