McGowan tops Alaskans in Alcatraz event

Sitka's James McGowan was the fastest Alaskan in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on Sunday, finishing the 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to shore, 18-mile bike ride and eight-mile run through San Francisco in 3 hours, 32 minutes, 40 seconds.

Osiensky, Michaelson win Bill Mitchell 5-K

Christopher Osiensky and Audrey Michaelson were the swiftest runners Sunday at the Bill Mitchell 5-kilometer run, part of Colony Days in Palmer.

Osiensky was the fastest male, clocking 16 minutes, 47.37 seconds to win the division for runners age 15-19. Michaelson topped the female runners at 19:04.68, also winning in the 15-19 division.
