A woman died in a wreck early Tuesday while fleeing from an Alaska State Trooper, who had cited her for driving with a revoked license on the Seward Highway, troopers said.
A trooper stopped to talk to 46-year-old Unalakleet resident Zoe Ivanoff at a pullout near Mile 47 of the highway about 3 a.m. Court records show Ivanoff had a revoked driver's license after a May drunken driving conviction. The trooper cited Ivanoff and called to have her Nissan Pathfinder towed, but after waiting an hour for a tow truck, Ivanoff sped off, troopers said.
The trooper followed Ivanoff for about eight miles and lost her until coming upon the Pathfinder, which was off the road. Ivanoff had been thrown from the vehicle and declared dead after efforts to revive her failed, troopers said.
Traffic was shut down to one lane for a time so investigators could analyze the scene, troopers said.
