3 rescued after canoe overturns in Eagle River

Published: June 19, 2012

Three people were rescued after their canoe overturned in swift water in Eagle River.

The Anchorage Fire Department and Alaska State Troopers say the canoe overturned Monday night. A trooper helicopter was used to help locate the three, who had managed to climb onto a log.

Thatcher Slagle was one of the three in the canoe. He told KTUU-TV that the current was strong and the canoe ran into the log. He says when someone leaned sideways, the canoe flipped.

All three were wearing life jackets. They were rescued after about a two-hour wait.
