Tom Waters, the sole winner of the $350,000 prize in this year's Nenana Ice Classic, is throwing a public party Saturday in Fairbanks to celebrate, reports the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
"No open bar," he said. "That would be too expensive." ...
Waters received his payday - $252,000 after taxes - during a ceremony on June 2 in Nenana and decided to throw a party. He bought 2,000 hamburgers and hot dogs and hopes that's enough to feed those who show up.
"It's just my way of saying thank you and giving back to the community," said Waters, who also won the Ice Classic in 1979 and 1983. "Besides, I need a tax write off to get my federal taxes back."
