KENAI -- While the new water treatment plant comes online, Kenai city officials are asking residents to conserve water because the city's production capacity has been exceeded for the past two weeks.

City officials are asking residents to refrain from watering lawns or washing vehicles among other actions.

The Peninsula Clarion reports that the city is currently re-developing an existing well and drilling a new well which contributed to the water shortage.
