Homicide victim ID'd following East Anchorage shooting

June 24, 2012

Anchorage police have identified the man killed by gunfire early Saturday in the Russian Jack area of East Anchorage as Kirt Kaanoi, 38. Police are releasing no new information on the shooting or whether it's related to a second shooting that occurred around the same time, said police spokeswoman Anita Shell.

Police were called about shots being fired around 1:45 a.m. at an apartment in the 4400 block of San Roberto Avenue. Two men ran off and the man police have now identified as Kaanoi staggered out and collapsed, a neighbor said. Medics rushed him to the hospital, where he died.

Samuel Davis, 19, showed up at a local hospital with multiple gunshot injuries moments after the shooting in Russian Jack was reported, police said.

On a Facebook page for an Anchorage man named Kirt Kaanoi, the profile picture shows him holding a gun that looks like an Uzi.
