JUNEAU -- A 16-year-old Juneau girl died from injuries she received when the inner tube she was riding on was struck by a jet ski over the weekend.

The Juneau Empire said friends and family gathered Monday to remember Savannah Cayce. She was a student at Douglas High School and a member of the swim team.

Cayce died Monday morning at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she was flown after sustaining a serious head injury.

Juneau police said the accident happened Saturday afternoon when a jet ski towing an inner tube struck another jet ski on the water. Cayce and another 16-year-old girl were riding on the inner tube being towed by a jet ski.

The other girl was treated and released from Bartlett Regional Hospital.
