Wine of the week: 2010 Tahuan Malbec

July 5, 2012

The 2010 Tahuan Malbec from Argentina is a dog that can hunt! Lots of nose and plenty of varietal depth and character put it well ahead of the pack. Lovely rich black fruit and oak are solid players throughout. A sappy, silky mouth feel and ultra-mild tannins complete the picture. This one didn't just fall off the shelf though; it's the brainchild of Ernesto Catena, eldest son of the now legendary Nicolas Catena. Four generations in Argentina make this a serious wine family. You can taste it in every project they do. Priced at a mind-blowing $16, this will make summer barbecuing that much more fun.
