Woman charged in fatal hit-and-run a no-show in court

Published: July 6, 2012

FAIRBANKS -- A Venetie woman charged in a fatal hit-and-run accident last year in Fairbanks has again failed to show up for court.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says 30-year-old Sonja Jean Yatlin was a no-show Thursday for a scheduled plea hearing in Fairbanks. Her public defender says Yatlin remained in Venetie because her arrangements for coming to Fairbanks "apparently fell through."

It is not the first time Yatlin has failed to show up for a court proceeding. She also failed to appear in court for a hearing in November. An arrest warrant was issued at that time.

Yatlin is accused of striking 93-year-old Yoland Rockar with her car May 31, 2011. Rockar was severely injured and died nine days later.
