Woman arrested on Kodiak shore after her kayak flipped

Published: July 11, 2012

A woman whose kayak overturned in the water east of the city of Kodiak was arrested Tuesday on a warrant when an Alaska state trooper arrived to help her, troopers said.

According to a trooper report, waves tipped Dolores Peterson and the kayak she was paddling about 9:40 p.m., just offshore near Spruce Cape Road. Someone nearby helped Peterson get to land, and a trooper who'd been called to the area met her there.

Peterson was uninjured, but she had a warrant for failing to appear in court for a hearing, troopers said. Court records show Peterson was out on bail for a misdemeanor charge of violating her duties as another person's official custodian.

Troopers took Peterson to jail, where she was held on $250 bail.
