Smith cruises on bike in orienteering meet

Cory Smith blazed to victory Wednesday at Kincaid Park, navigating 12 controls over 13 kilometers on the long course at Jill and Leslie's Bike Orienteering meet.

Smith finished in 44 minutes, 34 seconds, nearly three minutes ahead of runner-up Lars Spurkland. RayAnn Neustel won the women's division in 1:37:48.

Men -- 1) Cory Smith, 44:34; 2) Lars Spurkland, 47:28; 3) Ian Moore, 48:58; 4) Dave Evans, 56:37; 5) Gary Snyder, 59:57; 6) Kevin Teschendorf, 1:22:04; 7) Mike Robinson, 1:23:57; 8) Tom Bronga, 1:46:49.

Women -- 1) RayAnn Neustel, 1:37:48; 2) Karen Bronga, 1:48:40; 3) (tie) Stacey Neider, Michelle Wethington, Sherry Lentfer, 1:54:38.

Runner -- 1) Regan Sarwas, 1:16:18.

Short Bike Course (8-K, nine controls)

Women -- 1) Margaret Hillhouse, 51:10; 2) Joyce Goodall, 1:55:36; 3) Sara Falconer, 1:59:40.

Men -- 1) Steve Gruhn, 59:23. Women -- 1) Giselle Bergeron, 1:54:16.

White Course (2-K, six controls)

1) Kathy Faryniarz, 30:00; 2) Jenn Joliff and Springer Moore, 34:35; 3) Daniel and Alaric Baird, 39:00.
