WORTH NOTING
The Anchorage Glacier Pilots moved into sole possession of first place with a 4-0 win over the Chugiak Chinooks at Loretta French Field on Friday.
Jeff Kremer delivered a two-run single in the fifth for the Pilots, who improved to 16-9 and moved half a game ahead of the idle Peninsula Oilers (16-10).
A pair of three-run homers helped the Anchorage Bucs blow past the Fairbanks Goldpanners in a 14-9 slugfest at Growden Memorial Park on Friday.
The Bucs (12-13) scored six runs in the third inning, when Danny Susdorf's three-run blast highlighted a six-run third inning for the Bucs. Chase Compton kept momentum rolling in the fourth when he homered for a league-tying sixth time, a three-run shot that extended the Bucs' advantage to 9-0. Collin Ferguson tacked on a solo shot later in the same inning to push the lead to 10-0.
By the time the Panners (11-13) started scoring runs, it was too little, too late. They scored once in the bottom of the fourth, and each team scored four runs in the sixth. A two-run homer by Kevin Casey (3 for 5) capped a four-run rally for the Goldpanners in the eighth, making the score 14-9.
Compton, who led the league with a .414 batting average coming into Friday, finished the night 4 for 5 with four RBIs. Susdorf finished with five RBIs.
