Memorial is Tuesday for former Rep. Cheryll Heinze

Published: July 14, 2012

A memorial is scheduled Tuesday for former Alaska state Rep. Cheryll Heinze, who died this week of injuries suffered in a small plane crash.

A spokesman for Heinze's employer, the Matanuska Electric Association, said the memorial is planned for 5:30 p.m. at the Lazy Mountain Bible Church just outside Palmer.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators are examining the single-engine Cessna 206 that crashed Tuesday night while trying to land on Beluga Lake in Homer.

Five people including Heinze were aboard the plane. The other four were treated at a hospital and released.

The 65-year-old Heinze died at a Homer hospital early Wednesday.

Heinze represented Anchorage as a Republican in the state House of Representatives for one term, from 2003 to 2004.
