Police continue to search for suspect in hit-and-run

Published: July 15, 2012

Anchorage police are still looking for a suspected hit-and-run driver in a Saturday afternoon crash in Mountain View, Lt. Dave Parker, a police spokesman, said.

A white Chevrolet Tahoe crossed the center line on Commercial Drive and hit a Honda car head on around 3:30 p.m., police said. The man driving the SUV then fled on foot, police said. Officers responded with a police dog and handler but weren't able to track the suspect down Saturday. The crash occurred during a police shift change, which may have slowed the response.

Police haven't released the name, a description or photo of the man they are looking for.

Parker said he couldn't address whether the registered owner of the vehicle is the suspect. Sometimes vehicles are sold and the new owner doesn't change the registration, he said.

Two adults in the Honda were injured and taken to the hospital. But a baby in a car seat in the back didn't appear to be hurt, police said.
