Woman, child hospitalized after single-vehicle crash in Valley

July 15, 2012

A woman and her 6-year-old son were hospitalized after a single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday evening on Willow Fishhook Road near Deception Creek, Alaska State Troopers said. Mary Parkes, 38, of Wasilla, was headed toward the Parks Highway in a Suburban when she lost control, troopers said.

Troopers got a report of the crash around 5:43 p.m. The vehicle had crossed the oncoming lane of traffic and veered into the ditch, where it rolled several times, troopers said.

Both Parkes and the child were ejected and reported to be unconscious, troopers said. Neither was a wearing seat belt, and both were seriously injured, troopers said.

Parkes was in stable condition Sunday evening at Alaska Regional Hospital, a nursing supervisor said. The child, whom troopers identified as Daniel, was taken to Mat-Su Regional Hospital. A spokeswoman there said he was transferred to Providence Alaska Medical Center in stable condition.
