Kenai River subsistence king salmon fishery closes

Published: July 16, 2012

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is closing all subsistence fishing for king salmon on the Kenai River.

KTUU says the closure Monday is from the outlet of Skilak Lake and runs to July 31.

The closure includes dipnetting as well as rod-and-reel fisheries. Kings inadvertently caught during fishing for other species must be released immediately.

Fish and Wildlife officials say king salmon runs are low.
