The 10th annual Fireweed 400 belonged to the women.

With record-setting Kristin Wolf leading the way, women set the overall pace in three categories, including the premier event of Alaska's biggest bike race.

Wolf shaved nearly six minutes off the women's record and topped a field of eight -- seven men and Wolf -- in the 400-mile race from Sheep Mountain Lodge to Valdez and back.

Wolf finished in 25 hours, 11 minutes, 51 seconds to wipe out the record set in 2003 by Janice Tower (25:17:18).

She didn't eliminate Tower from the record book, however. Tower still owns four Fireweed 400 records, because she and Darcy Davis raced to a new record in the women's 200-mile tandem division. They finished in 10:23:25, lopping more than four hours off the old record.

Wolf was one of three women who set the pace for everyone -- men and women -- in their respective races.

The only women's soloist in the 400-mile race, Wolf was more than an hour ahead of the top man. Erik Christensen took the men's victory in 26:42:33.

In the 50-miler, Shannon Donley topped all cyclists in 2:04:18, which put her five minutes ahead of the fastest man.

And in the fat-tire 50-miler, Paisley Meekin blew away all of her competitors as well as the course record. Meekin finished in 2:11:25, more than an hour ahead of the fastest man as well as the second-fastest woman.

Meekin shattered the 2008 record of 3:03:16 set by Liz Butera and also bettered the men's record of 2:51:37, set in 2008 by Chris Gregg.

The Fireweed 400, which offers distances of 400, 200, 100 and 50 miles, drew hundreds of cyclists over the weekend.
