BETHEL -- Calista Corp. is donating $10,000 to the Bethel senior center and is planning a celebration next week at the facility.
The Tuesday event at the Eddie Hoffman Senior Center will include a photo booth so elders can have a portrait photo taken.
Center director Louise Charles says the center serves up to 70 seniors a day in the Western Alaska hub city, as well as seniors visiting from around the 56-village region.
Charles says the donation from the regional Native corporation will likely go toward food and supplies delivered by barge.
Charles says the center also has received $10,000 from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority that will be used to replace tables, chairs and kitchen equipment.
The center is owned and operated by the Orutsararmiut Tribal Council.
