The construction of 11 wind turbines is well underway on Fire Island, three miles west of Anchorage in the Cook Inlet, on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. The project is expected to be completed and producing power this fall. Fire Island Wind LLC estimates that the first phase will have a 17.6 megawatt generation capacity, enough electricity to power 4,000 Southcentral Alaska households.
